Special Issues in Schema Therapy for Chronic Depression

Ruth focused on how to treat chronic depression and dysthymia with schema therapy, using Renner's model outlined in the article by Renner, Arntz, Leeuw and Huibers in Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice in 2013, titled, "Treatment for chronic depression using schema therapy."

Ruth discussed the role of specific schemas in blocking progress. She also described  behavioral pattern-breaking approaches for addressing the "depressongenic interpersonal style" typical in patients with chronic depression. Ruth also presented practical strategies to help clinicians remain in the "healthy adult therapist mode" when working with this challenging population.
