"a hierarchy of confrontational interventions facing eight dysfunctional parent modes"

 WORKSHOP by ofer peled

AIMS:
This workshop will present a new model on:
  • A spectrum of 8 dysfunctional parent modes
  • A hierarchy of confrontational interventions based on the severity of damage caused by these dysfunctional parent mode

SUMMARY:
Young and his co-authors refer to the critical punitive and the demanding parent modes as negative internalized representations of parents and other significant figures. These are dysfunctional modes which have great impact on the patient's psychopathology. Young suggested fighting and defeating as the main strategy to help patients facing these parent modes. In clinical practice we encounter a broad spectrum of dysfunctional parent modes with diverse levels of severity and impact on the patient's life. In addition, many patients as well as therapists find that combatting the parent voices makes them critical and punitive themselves and sometimes causes unnecessary damage to their actual relationships. The new model contains: (a) Links between parental styles and internalized dysfunctional parent modes/healthy adult mode; (b) A spectrum of 8 dysfunctional parent modes divided into 3 levels of severity; (c)  The association between this severity spectrum and the patients' psychopathology; (d) And finally, a hierarchy of confrontational interventions based on severity of damage caused by these dysfunctional parent modes. The workshop will include video demonstrations & role plays.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
WS objectives:
  • Characterizing the spectrum and identifying the 8 dysfunctional parent modes
  • Characterizing the hierarchy of confrontational interventions according to the spectrum of dysfunctional parent modes
  • Enhancing the WS participants' skills implementing the hierarchy of confrontational interventions

The workshop is intended for: Beginners and Advanced
